Massachusetts Tax Information

Written on January 11, 2008

Although most of the news from MA is about things we were able to deduct last year that we cannot deduct this year (see MA 2007 tax law changes posted earlier today), I wanted to remind you of some things that people tend to forget.

Circuit Breaker Credit: This is a tax credit aimed at lower income seniors and is often missed because some people whose income does not meet the filing threshold are eligible for the credit, but do not know it because they neglect to file. If you are or know anyone age 65 or older who thinks they do not need to file, ask me about this.

MA commuter deduction: This deduction is still alive and allows a deduction for tolls and Mass transit.
